# Start / Stop servers

The **start** and **stop** buttons simply allow you to start and stop your instances.

**Note:** to be started, a server must have been **deployed** first. It cannot be started if it is only in a declared state (meaning, resides in the YaK database only but is not deployed to any cloud or on-prem infrastructure)
